With so many apartments layouts to choose from, it can get really confusing when figuring out a place to rent. However, there are ways around it. Here are 5 Tips for choosing the best Hong Kong apartment layout.
Find a layout that fits your needs
Whether you are living alone or with a partner, accessing your needs and lifestyle can very much determine the type of layout you are looking for. For example, if you are sharing an apartment with a roommate, finding a place with larger bedrooms could be very important because you might need more storage space and privacy. How about this, some of you may love the alfresco lifestyle right? Then finding an apartment with a balcony or accessible rooftop could be in your checklist.
Go with a square floor Plan (as close as possible)
There are two main reasons behind this. Firstly, a square floor plan simply makes the apartment feel bigger because it allows your field of view to travel to be as unobstructed as possible. The second reason is that it just makes it a lot easier to place furniture and buy furniture. You might find it very limiting when you have an apartment with funky corners or twists and turn. So when looking for a good apartment layout, it’s best to go square.
Look for a place with lots of wall space
When you maximise wall space you create a more user friendly environment. Having too many door openings grouped together or having too many windows can be a bad thing. Where are you going to place your furniture. Check out the example below:
Avoid apartments with bay windows
Bay windows have no place in small apartments because it takes away from SUPER VALUABLE footprint. Storage is the number one priority for apartment dwellers. If you ask people here in Hong Kong, I am pretty confident most residents here will trade that reading nook to an actual bookshelf to actually store books. So in our view, bay windows just aren’t that functional.
Search for an apartment with good window placement
When windows are located in optimal places, they bring in lots of natural light. And if most of your windows face south then you are lucky enough to get that awesome light without the glaring heat from west facing windows. Also windows that look out into scenic open areas like natural scenery or picturesque cityscapes draws your eye outwards. This will make you feel like you are living in a bigger space than you are actually in.
